Postdoctoral Fellow
University of Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh, PA
The Hinterleitner Lab at the Immunology Department at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine is seeking to hire a motivated postdoctoral research fellow. The applicant should be interested to join an ambitious and energetic team to help with the discovery of novel mechanisms in host-microbe interactions (see Nature 2018, PMID: 29769727 and Science 2017, PMID: 28386004).
Ongoing projects:
- Define the microbial triggers for Th2 immune responses to dietary antigens and development of food allergies
- Define mechanisms of immune-microbiota-mediated gut barrier dysfunction and implications in cancer, food sensitivities and IBD.
Techniques used in these studies include multi-parameter flow cytometry and cell sorting, complex in vivo mouse studies including germ-free mice, anaerobic/aerobic culture of microbes, data acquisition and analysis, single cell RNA sequencing, confocal microscopy and ex vivo cellular assays (see also www.meisel-hinterleitner-lab.com).
This is a unique opportunity to be trained in a wide array of techniques in a growing area of host-microbe interactions, which can serve as a platform for a career as an independent investigator or a lead investigator in industry.
Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent, be scientifically curious, highly motivated, intellectually committed and capable of working independently. Ideal candidates should have strong training in immunology, microbiology or molecular and cell biology. Strong communication and writing skills are essential. Knowledge of computational analysis using R would be a plus.
Successful Candidates will be part of a stimulating and collaborative scientific environment with cutting-edge instrumentation and facilities. Applicants should send CV or Biosketch including names and addresses of three references to Reinhard Hinterleitner at reinhard@pitt.edu.
