The Meisel Lab at the Immunology Department at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine is seeking to hire a motivated postdoctoral research fellow. The applicant should be interested to join an ambitious and energetic team to help with the discovery of novel mechanisms in host-microbe interactions (see Meisel et al., Nature 2018).
Ongoing projects:
- Define the role of microbial signals and the microbiota in liver disease in mice and humans.
- Define the role of the tumor microbiome on anti-cancer immunotherapy in mice and humans.
Techniques used in these studies include multi-parameter flow cytometry and cell sorting, complex in vivo mouse studies, anaerobic/aerobic culture of microbes, data acquisition and analysis, single cell RNA sequencing, confocal microscopy and ex vivo cellular assays (See also www.meisel-hinterleitner-lab.com).
This is a unique opportunity to be trained in a wide array of techniques in a growing area of host-microbe interactions, which can serve as a platform for a career as an independent investigator or a lead investigator in industry.
Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent, be scientifically curious, highly motivated, intellectually committed and capable of working independently. Ideal candidates should have strong training in immunology, microbiology or molecular and cell biology. Strong communication and writing skills are essential. Knowledge of computational analysis using R would be a plus.
