Postdoctoral Fellow: Aging & Viral Inflammation

A postdoctoral fellowship position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Daniel R. Goldstein at the University of Michigan. The proposed research opportunities will focus on how aging impairs immune resolution and increases mortality during influenza A viral infection. Candidate responsibilities include experimental design and execution, data analysis and interpretation and preparation of research papers, presentations and grants. The project will perform work in murine models and will translate findings to humans. The PI will provide focused and tailored mentoring to candidate to ensure that candidate reaches desired career goals.

Desired qualifications

  • A recent PhD graduate with a strong background in immunology, gerontology, molecular biology or a relevant discipline with at least one peer review experimental/investigational paper in a journal (IF >5.0)
  • Hands-on research experience in a broad range of immunological techniques including multi-color flow cytometry, primary cell isolation, in vitro cellular assays; experience with in vivo murine models is highly beneficial
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently but also enjoys contributing to and working within a team
  • Curious, creative thinker who responds positively to constructive remarks
  • Excellent communication, organizational and writing skills are a must
  • Eligibility for NIH training grants.
